Help @superamit defeat Leukemia!
Amit, the super rad creator of Photojojo and Jelly, recently learned that he has leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant. Finding a genetic match that his body will accept is difficult — the chances of someone of South Asian descent finding a match in the national bone marrow registry are only 1 in 20,000.
Here's how you can help:
- If you're of South Asian ancestry, get a free test by mail to determine your ability to donate marrow. You'll rub your cheeks with a cotton swab and mail it back.
- If you’re in NYC, attend a benefit party this Friday, October 14.
- Organize a donor drive near you by dropping an email to 100k Cheeks and they’ll send you kits, flyers, tell you what to say, and make the whole process easy.
- If you know any South Asians (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, or Sri Lanka), encourage them to get a test and contact Amit.
Flickr, TechCrunch, Boing Boing and others are helping spread the word, Seth Godin has offered $10k for the first certified match, and Michael Galpert of Aviary has matched his offer. If you’re a match, the donation involves an outpatient procedure. Help Amit defeat Leukemia!
